As the social sector engages in more place-based work, there is growing interest and need for philanthropies to partner and engage with governments in addressing widespread, systemic challenges. Join Emary C. Aronson (Chief Knowledge Officer, Robin Hood) and Andrew Ferguson (Co-CEO, Dalio Education) for a conversation on how and why funders work in partnership with government entities and programs to improve outcomes at the local and state levels.

Andrew is the Co-CEO at Dalio Education, where he leads the team and overall strategy and grant-making alongside Barbara Dalio. Dalio Education collaborates with public schools, non-profit organizations, and communities in Connecticut to support educators and help young people to succeed. Dalio Education's signature initiatives include the Connecticut RISE Network and the Connecticut Opportunity Project, designed to benefit young people ages 14 to 26 who are at-risk or disconnected from education and employment.

Chief Knowledge Officer, Robin Hood

Emary Aronson is the Chief Knowledge Officer and Senior Advisor to the CEO at Robin Hood. In that role Emary supports the CEO; engages on the organization’s learning agenda; and has overall responsibility for Robin Hood’s bespoke initiatives including Blue Ridge Labs, the Robin Hood Learning and Technology Fund and Mobility L.A.B.s. Emary also manages the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which has been activated three times in Robin Hood’s history. Founded in 1988, Robin Hood is New York City’s largest poverty-fighting organization, which finds, funds, and partners with programs that are proven to be effective remedies to poverty and a consistent force for good in the lives of New Yorkers in need. Emary holds a BA in History from Smith College, an MSc in Economic History from the London School of Economics, a MPPM from the Yale School of Management, and a PhD in History from the University of Chicago. She chairs the board of directors of the New York City Charter Schools Center, is a member of the executive committee of the board of directors of the Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO), a reentry program for returning citizens, and is a member of the board of directors of the Leo Baeck Institute. Emary is a Pahara-Aspen Fellow and sits on several advisory boards.
